For the Highway Patrol , memory is an essential value, and 27 years have passed since the passing of the courageous officer Sandro Bellotti , who lost his life while investigating an accident when a truck approached at high speed and struck him. Yesterday morning, the highest local authorities, both civilian and military, gathered in front of the memorial stone, a fitting tribute and homage to the memory of the officer who passed away at just 27 years old. Officer Bellotti and his colleague stopped their patrol car in the emergency lane, leaving their flashing lights on, and began assisting the people involved. Subsequently, even though Bellotti was in the emergency lane carrying out technical investigations of the accident, a truck approaching at high speed lost control and struck him, killing him.
Many representatives from all levels of the Highway Patrol, the Carabinieri, and the Guardia di Finanza were present. Among them were Ravenna director Davide Pani, commissioners Gianni Grimaldi and Paolo Piccinin, Carabinieri Captain Lucilla Esposito, and local Guardia di Finanza commander Nello D'Angelo. "Today we remember the story of one of our colleagues who served the state with dedication to the point of losing the most precious asset: his life," said Pani, "and we want to do so with a smile."
After the commander of the Codigoro Highway Police detachment, Francesco Zanfardino, stood at attention, a State Police patrol laid a laurel wreath at the memorial stone, while Codigoro Mayor Alice Zanardi, along with her mother Lara and sisters Silvia and Renza, laid a bouquet of flowers, standing in silence with tears in her eyes. The brief but touching ceremony concluded with prayers and a blessing from Father Alban.
